Joss Whedon talks new S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show
"It needs to be its own thing"
How Joss Whedon finds the time to do so many interviews is beyond us, particularly now he's in charge of directing The Avengers 2 , overseeing all of Marvel's Phase Two films and creating a new S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series.
However, he's taken a moment to discuss the latter of those projects, explaining that while there will obviously be links to the rest of the Marvel universe, the new show will be based around a set of new characters.
“It’s new characters," he confirms. "It needs to be its own thing. It needs to be adjacent [ to the MCU ] but you don’t want to do a show where you’re constantly going, ‘Iron Man just left, but he was totally here a minute ago.’ You want them to do their own thing.”
"What does S.H.I.E.L.D. have that the other superheroes don’t?" he muses. "That, to me, is that they’re not superheroes. But they live in that universe. Even though they’re a big organisation, that [ lack of powers ] makes them underdogs, and that’s interesting to me."
Marvel is currently working on a pilot for the show, with Whedon co-writing and possibly in line to direct. No rest for the super-geek, eh Joss?
