Julia Stiles returns for Bourne 5
The as-yet untitled fifth Bourne movie has secured its first supporting cast member, with Deadline reporting that Julia Stiles is officially signed on to appear. She is the only other confirmed name outside of leading man Matt Damon, who returns along with director Paul Greengrass. Stiles is reprising her role as undercover agent Nicky Parsons, whom she played in the first three Bourne movies.
While story details are thin on the ground, we know it won’t be a continuation of the fourth outing in the franchise, The Bourne Legacy. After Damon and Greengrass jumped ship following The Bourne Ultimatum, Legacy arrived in 2012 with Jeremy Renner in the lead role as another operative in the same program. Since then, the original actor-director duo decided to return to the series.
With those two big-hitters back on board, it seemed as if a Legacy sequel would be nixed. But, according to one of the series’ producers Frank Marshall, that will still go ahead as a separate set of movies.
As for Bourne 5, Ex Machina’s Alicia Vikander is also in talks, and we’ve got our fingers crossed that Joan Allen’s tenacious Pamela Landy will make a comeback. The film is currently targeting a July 29, 2016 release date.
