Feeling responsible for a car accident that robs Julia (Rebecka Hemse) of her memory, married photographer Jonas (Anders W Berthelsen) plays along with her family’s belief that he’s the boyfriend they’ve never met.

The problem? The real Sebastian, revealed to be a trigger-happy headcase with Triads on his tail…

Having assembled his film noir elements (femme fatale, mistaken identity, a narrator explaining the circumstances of his own death), Danish director Ole Bornedal laces them with a morbid, lurid humour.

The grim result might stretch credibility, but that doesn’t make it any less entertaining.
