Kathryn Bigelow to direct Tom Hardy in The True American
Annapurna scores rights to true story
Kathryn Bigelow has locked down her next project, with the director set to helm Annapurna's big-screen version of The True American: Murder And Mercy .
The new film is an adaptation of the book of the same name by Anand Giridharadas, and is the true story of Mark Stroman, a self-styled "American terrorist" who carried out a gas station shooting in "revenge" for 9/11.
Raisuddin Bhuiyan, a Bangladeshi immigrant, was one of his victims, but decides ten years later that in order to achieve closure, he must fight the Texas state government to save Stroman from the death penalty.
Tom Hardy is already in place to star as Stroman in what sounds like a fascinating story, with no word as yet on who might play Bhuiyan.
Annapurna has yet to reveal who will be adapting the screenplay, but Bigelow will likely re-team with Mark Boal, who collaborated with her on both The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty .
