Kickboxer to be rebooted by Radar Pictures
While Bloodsport remake lands a director
It seems to be open season on classic Van Damme action films, with the impending Bloodsport remake to be followed by a new version of Kickboxer .
The original Kickboxer saw Van Damme as a martial artist avenging his paralysed brother in a fighting contest where the brutal Tong Po lies in wait…
Just how Radar Pictures plans to update the story remains to be seen, but Stephen Fung is set to occupy the director's chair, with Jim McGrath and Dimitri Logothetis currently hard at work on a script.
Meanwhile, the Bloodsport remake is also making strides, with a new director confirmed in the form of V For Vendetta 's James McTeigue.
That film will relocate the action to South America, with Variety reporting that the story will, "explore the life of 21st century mercenaries as they collide with the underground world of Brazilian Vale Tudo fighting."
No word as yet as to whether Van Damme himself might be involved in any capacity, but we'll be keeping our fingers crossed for a couple of cameos...
