Kidman goes bad for Compass
Nicole signs up for villainess role in New Line’s Dark Materials curtain raiser
The recently wed Mrs Keith Urban may have been sunning herself on honeymoon recently but that doesn’t mean she’s not been thumbing through the odd script or two.
Nicole Kidman has put pen to paper to appear in New Line Cinema’s fantasy flick The Golden Compass - based on the first of Phillip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy (Northen Lights to us Brits).
Kidman will play Mrs Coulter, the villain of the piece, which follows youngster Lyra Belacqua as she travels to a parallel universe to save her best friend and a host of other kids who are being used in twisted experiments.
About A Boy helmer Chris Weisz adapted the book and is on board to direct. Weisz will pick up the megaphone on the $150 million project in September when shooting kicks off at Shepperton Studios in London.
