Kirsten Dunst to battle Melancholia
Stars with Kiefer Sutherland and Charlotte Gainsbourg...
Looks like Kirsten Dunst fancies herself a bit of a challenge.
Why? Well, she’s just signed herself over to the, um, care of director Lars Von Trier for his latest film Melancholia . And considering Von Trier’s last flick was the controversial Cannes-botherer Antichrist , we imagine she’s in for an interesting ride.
Deadline report that Dunst is replacing Penelope Cruz in the psychological disaster movie, the latter sailing off for the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean .
Also on board for Von Trier’s own special brand of moviemaking is Kiefer Sutherland, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Udo Kier, Charlotte Rampling and Alexander and Stellan Skarsgaard.
If Dunst is feeling a little anxious of what Von Trier has in store for her, she could always chat to co-star Gainsbourg (below), who won the Best Actress award at last year’s Cannes festival for pushing the boundaries of decency in Antichrist .
Few details are available on Melancholia ’s plot, but the film reportedly involves a planet crossing orbit with Earth – which we can only assume will cause havoc behind the closed doors of our planet’s civilians.
The only thing Trier has said about the movie is “No more happy endings”, which definitely seems to fit that morose title.

Any ideas what we should expect from Von Trier this time?
