Set in Australia, this thriller-cum-road movie follows lovers and small-time crooks Nikki (O'Connor) and Al (Day), who suffer the repercussions of a badly executed job in which a man is left dead in a hotel room. On the run from the police, they hit on a trail of bizarre motel murders. Believing each other guilty of the killings, they soon discover unpleasant secrets about their respective pasts.
Boasting a confident opening, director and co-writer Bill Bennett (Stolen Hearts) promises a surreal and darkly humoured tale. But beyond the first 30 minutes it descends into a predictable re-hash of David Lynch's Wild At Heart. Not even Day and O'Connor's finely tuned, intense performances can belie this tedious and flaccid fare.
