The LEGO Movie sequel gets a new director and title
Given that The LEGO Movie was a critical and commercial smash, a sequel was always an inevitability, and now the animated follow-up has a new director and official title.
The new film will be directed by regular Community helmer Rob Schrab, and will appropriately be titled The LEGO Movie Sequel. Nice and easy to remember, then.
The screenplay is being co-written by Chris Miller and Phil Lord, directors of the first film, who issued a joint statement expressing their delight with Schrab’s appointment.
“We are so excited to collaborate with Rob,” said the duo. “He is a comedy genius, a visual savant, and we have been stalking him for years. No one works harder than Rob.”
“His aesthetic, combined with his sense of humour, bring a strong, unique, thoughtful, and passionately nerdy voice to this project. People who know him are slapping their foreheads today and saying, ‘Of course!’”
An official release date has yet to be confirmed, with the film tentatively expected to arrive at some point in 2018.
