Les Misrables poster homages iconic musical one-sheet
It’s all about the sad little girl
Les Misérables has a new poster, and it’s basically a live-action update of the stage musical’s iconic, illustrated one-sheet.
Yep, the sad little girl with the wavy locks, Cosette, is front and centre. It’s telling of the ‘brand value’ (sorry) of that image, that the marketing bods have opted to run with it over any number of the star names they have on the project: Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe...
Cosette the younger is played by Isabelle Allen, although Amanda Seyfried will play the older incarnation of the character (don’t forget, this is a generation-spanner).
For anyone who hasn’t seen the stage show (or read Victor Hugo’s source novel), Les Mis tells the story of Jackman’s beleaguered prisoner 24601 (sorry, Jean Valjean) as he tries to make a life for himself in 19th Century France.
Check out the poster in full below:
As this is based on a musical, there’s naturally going to be a lot of singing. Live singing. As in, the actors belt out their numbers on-set, rather than pre-recording and lip-synching. Watch a featurette on the live singing, below:

Les Misérables opens in the UK on 11 January 2013 (after opening in the US on 25 December 2012).
