LittleBigPlanet Trophy whore guide

What it is: An arctic wasteland featuring a high-tension springboard, rocket sled, hundreds of tiny “nano-bubbles” and what appears to be a flamingo.
What it offers: 2X Multiplier!, 8X Multiplier!, 20X Multiplier!, Hi Score, Sackbird, Incredible Speed!, Incredible Height!

Like Sit Back and Enjoy, this level is slightly disingenuous in its promise of seven Trophies, as you probably already have one of them by this point. But the difference between this level and the one reviewed on the last page is that, while Sit Back was really just a linear treadmill, this one takes a bit of input from you, and that makes it fun. Seriously.

See, while this one’s over quickly, each of its three stations is a brief thrill for players. One launches you into the stratosphere past a concerned bird, another rockets you across the landscape at ridiculous speed and the now-obligatory score bubble segment features bubbles that are so tiny, and so densely packed, that running through them actually makes the game slow down. They also produce a great sound, kind of like tearing through a sheet of bubble wrap. If you’re looking to rack up Trophies in a hurry and have a lot of fun doing it, this is the quickest, most complete way we’ve seen.

What it is: A rocket elevator that unleashes a storm of score bubbles on its way up.
What it offers: Sackbird, 20X Multiplier!, Incredible Height!, Incredible Speed!

Another level that does almost exactly what it promises, Instant 4 is over almost as quickly as it begins. As it opens, you’re dumped onto a pressure-sensitive platform that immediately rockets into the stratosphere, slamming into an emitter and unleashing a flurry of score bubbles. After you’ve finally landed, you can wade through and soak up the points before exiting the level.

The only problem here is that, because the level exit is so close to score bubbles, it’s impossible to collect them all and/or earn a Hi Score Trophy before you’re booted out. But then, we have to note that Hi Score is not one of the Trophies the level specifically promises.

What it is: A chute filled with giant score bubbles, followed by a spring-loaded platform that launches you into the air and onto the level exit.
What it offers: 8X Multiplier!, 20X Multiplier!, Hi Score, Sackbird

This level is bland and utilitarian, but even for a “let’s just get this out of the way” level, it takes way too long. That’s entirely because the points chute at the beginning of the level is filled with HUGE score bubbles, instead of small or even regular-sized ones, and those take much longer to soak up than they might normally. Shrinking them would go a long way toward fixing that problem, but it still wouldn’t make this anything more than a dull exercise in getting your Trophies as quickly as possible so you can forget about them and take no pride in them whatsoever.

In short, if you want to feel like a dirty, dirty Trophy whore who deliberately wastes time in order to earn meaningless “rewards,” go right ahead and “play” “through” this.

What it is: An actual level, filled with deadly hazards, jumping/grabbing puzzles and a really, really cool giant-robot boss that makes other, smaller robots.
What it offers: 8X Multiplier!, 20X Multiplier!, Hi Score, Sackbird, Incredible Height!, Incredible Speed!

Up until now, some of the levels we’ve featured have been fun and some have been bland, but they’ve all been quickie non-levels intended only to generate Trophies. If you’re the kind of person who likes to face down actual challenges before being rewarded, however, we urge you to ignore all of those other levels we just talked about and play TROPHIES LAND instead.

Yeah, it’s kind of long, a little tough and might get you killed more than a few times, but TROPHIES LAND is actually a pretty decent level in its own right, Trophies or no. It’s filled with spinning grab wheels, electrified walls and balloons you can ride to high platforms, and its centerpiece – to repeat what we said above – is a giant goddam robot that makes other, smaller robots. And the good news is, you’ll get all the same Trophies you would from any of those other levels – it’s just that now, they might actually come with some small sense of pride, even if you know deep down that you didn’t have to try that hard for them.

Not anywhere near as hard as you’ll have to try if you want to get all the creator and community Trophies, anyway…
