At long last, Vib Ribbon gets a North American release
Picture it: Columbia, Maryland 2007. A youngish editor goes to visit her best friends for a rainy weekend. They sit around, eat lots of food, have a few drinks, watch Godzilla movies, and play endless hours of video games. It’s almost perfect.
Then a video game is played that changes the young editor's life. That young editor was me and that game was Vib Ribbon. I can’t even begin to describe how much fun was had that night. I can tell you that we played till the sun came up. I can tell you that there was a lot of giggling and profanity. And I am pretty sure we played the game to Slayer’s classic Raining Blood, because Vib Ribbon can adapt to your song selections.
That night and that game were never forgotten. The simple graphics and addicting gameplay stuck with me, and all I wanted to do was play it again and again. But alas, the video game gods conspired against me, and there were many reasons I never played again. Mostly because the game was an import.
I did bug my friend Marc, who worked at Sony, for years about it. The poor guy just knew that every single meeting would end with a question about a North American release of Vib Ribbon. And now all of my dreams are coming true because tomorrow this game will be released tomorrow.
Right now it’s only for the PS3 and PS Vita but hot dog, it’s something. If you've never played it before, I highly suggest buying it. It’s captivating, clever, and just damn entertaining.
