Marc Webb confirms yet another villain for The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Peter is going to have his hands full
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 might already have crammed in three villains in the form of Electro, Rhino and Green Goblin, but according to director Marc Webb, the antagonists won’t stop there.
Webb recently took to Twitter to reference B.J. Novak’s character in the new film, who turns out to be none other than one “A. Smythe”...
Almost shot ASM2 in B+W til @bjnovak 's (A. Smythe) promo for his excellent book ONE MORE THING beat me to it: http://t.co/axmFgum6fJ February 3, 2014
Now, for the non-comic-book aficionados out there, that moniker refers to one Alistair Smythe, the crippled son of the Oscorp scientist, Spencer Smythe, responsible for creating an army of robotic “Spider-Slayers”.
In the comic, Smythe eventually creates a mech-suit for himself, to become the ultimate Spider-Slayer. Just how much of this will happen in the film remains to be seen, but it’s safe to say that Smythe is no friend of the wall-crawler...
Webb certainly doesn’t seem about to shy away from stacking the odds against Spidey, this time out. It’s almost as if he hasn’t seen Spider-Man 3 ...
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will open in the UK on 18 April 2014.
