Mariah Carey is Gotham's Mayor in The Lego Batman movie
Casting on The LEGO Batman Movie has seen an influx of actors over the last several weeks, with new celebrities signing on to lend their voices to some of DC's most beloved comic book icons. A new report suggests that its latest addition might be belting out a few tunes to boot. Your eyes aren't deceiving you: Mariah Carey is negotiating a deal to join the movie.
Deadline first broke the news, originally noting the singer would be playing Commissioner Gordon before other sources set that gender-bending news straight. It turns out Carey's on track to voice Gotham's mayor. There's no doubt that the songstress is blessed with a gifted voice - it's her acting prowess that's likely to stir doubt in Batman fans. Still, she managed to rise above the dirge that is Glitter and delivered an understated turn in Precious.
For Batman's solo mission she'll be sharing the billing with Will Arnett, Ralph Fiennes, Rosario Dawson, Michael Cera and a rumored Zach Galifianakis. Chris McKay directs from a script by Seth Grahame-Smith, with the movie slated to open on February 20, 2017.
