Mark Wahlberg discusses possibility of The Fighter 2
“It’s still in the early stages”
Mark Wahlberg has spoken out about the possibility of filming a sequel to his critically successful The Fighter.
The actor, whose co-stars Melissa Leo and Christian Bale won Oscars for their standout performances, has revealed that he’d love to do at least one more Fighter film that delves further into the life of boxer Micky Ward.
“Everybody had such an amazing experience making the movie that I can't imagine they wouldn't want to go back,” he tells EW . “But it's still kind [ of ] in the early stages.
“I'm trying to plant the idea in everyone's head that we should do - not five or six Fighters like Rocky - but one more because the big thing that Micky Ward was famous for was his three epic battles with Arturo Gatti.
“So we're talking about possibly taking one more run at it.”
Whatever happens, Wahlberg is continuing to train just in case The Fighter 2 gets a green light – which is pretty much what he did with the first Fighter movie as well.
For now, he’s shooting action thriller Contraband with Kate Beckinsale and Ben Foster.
