Mark Wahlberg to venture into Broken City
“An amazing piece of material”
Mark Wahlberg’s slate just keeps getting busier this week. Despite losing out on the Crow remake, he’s landed the lead in game adap Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, and is also now attached to a film called Broken City.
“There’s this other thing, Broken City, that I want to do at the end of next year with Allen Hughes directing, which is on the Black List,” he tells MTV .
“It’s one of the best unproduced screenplays, an amazing piece of material that should attract amazing talent.”
The Playlist have read the script, and call it “pretty terrific”, a pitch black neo noir that follows Billy Taggart, an ex-cop who’s extradited from the force after shooting a teenager.
Flash forward eight years, and he’s now a private eye, hired by an entrant in the New York mayoral race to find out if his wife is loyal to him.
It’s been compared to Chinatown for its examination of big city corruption – which has us sold. Could 2011 be the year of the Wahlberg? It’s looking pretty likely.
