Mass Effect: Andromeda pre-order video also has first multiplayer gameplay, which is way more important
A new trailer for Mass Effect: Andromeda is trying to get everybody excited about pre-order bonuses and WAIT A MINUTE that's the first footage of the multiplayer mode! The video shows about four seconds of a co-op multiplayer round, with a human and Krogan operative using biotic powers to smash some raiders.
EA has sort of filled in some details edgewise about Andromeda's multiplayer but hasn't spoken directly about it all that much yet. So let's take a closer look...
Yep, pretty similar to the multiplayer mode from Mass Effect 3. In the scene with the Krogan character you can see a list of objectives and a ticking timer in the upper right corner, indicating a similar wave-and-objective based approach. Mass Effect 3's multiplayer was surprisingly fun, so there's no harm in Andromeda sticking with the same ideas as long as it smoothes out the rough patches.
Aside from giving you the chance to team up with friends and online strangers, the thing I appreciated most about Mass Effect 3's multiplayer was that it offered the first chance in the whole series to play as alien characters. The leaping krogan proves that will also be the case in Andromeda; I hope we can play as angarans and some of the other native Andromedan species as well.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
