Matt Damon could direct and star in Father Daughter Time

Matt Damon could potentially make his directorial debut with Father Daughter Time: A Tale of Armed Robbery and Eskimo Kisses , according to a report by Deadline

Damon has taken his time picking a directing project, but Matthew Aldrich's hot-property spec script could just be it.

Warner Bros is said to be close to landing the spec, though Damon and his producing partner Chris Moore were among the serious rival bidders.

While Warner Bros outbid Damon and Moore, Deadline suggests that a first-look deal Damon has with the studio would make it easy for him to take the reins of the project.

The film, which Damon is looking to star in as well as possibly directing, follows a criminal on a cross-state crime spree with his daughter in tow.

Aldrich refers to Father Daughter Time as "a smallish, very personal, dark but playful road movie about a father and daughter."

Apparently Aldrich and his manager have been convinced by Damon that the script's vision would remain intact, even with a major studio involved.

With deals currently being finalised, expect to hear an official announcement on this sooner rather than later.

Father Daughter Time sounds like a gearshift for Damon, which would make it a bold project to direct and star in, but the offbeat tone and character-based drama would be ideal for a movie star known for his brains.

Damon has worked with some of the finest directors in the business throughout his acting career, including Spielberg, Scorsese, Soderbergh, Van Sant, Coppola and more. It'll be fascinating to see what he brings to the table as auteur...
