Matt Gerald joins Avatar

The closest that Matt Gerald has come to James Cameron in the past is appearing in Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines.

But now he’s about to get a whole lot closer to the Cameron thanks to landing a choice role in Avatar. Gerald will play an unnamed character who is the big villain of the piece. Avatar tells the futuristic tale of a wounded marine (Sam Worthington) drafted in to settle an exploit a distant planet who ends up joining forces with the local creatures to help them fight off the human invaders.

The likes of Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, CCH Pounder and Joel David Moore are already part of the sprawling cast that Jim Cameron is ordering about in LA and New Zealand.

Avatar should be wowing us all in summer 2009…
