Constantine set to jump from cancelled TV show into an episode of Arrow
Despite the cancellation of NBC’s Constantine after its one and only season, there’s life in the character yet, with Matt Ryan set to reprise his role as the demon-hunting detective on a forthcoming episode of Arrow.
Constantine’s inclusion represents something of a coup for The CW, given that the rights to the character still lie with NBC. However, according to Mark Pedowitz, President of The CW, the fact that parent company Warner Bros acted as a production company on Constantine helped smooth the way.
Pedowitz describes Constantine’s episode as “a great one-shot episode”, with the official synopsis claiming that the character “will provide critical support to Oliver when arrows aren’t enough”. He will appear in the fifth episode of the new season, entitled Haunted.
“We are thrilled to have Matt Ryan reprise the role of John Constantine on an upcoming episode of Arrow,” said Exec Producer Marc Guggenheim. “Matt is an incredibly talented actor and his portrayal of this beloved character was always something we admired.”
“The introduction of magic and mysticism on the show this season has provided a truly organic opportunity for us to bring John Constantine to Arrow and The CW’s DC universe. It will be a well-deserved tip of the hat to all the Constantine fans who were so incredibly supportive of that series.”
