Matthew Vaughn talks X-Men First Class sequel ideas
Already has an opening scene in mind
Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class opens in cinemas next week, and it’s already generating a healthy amount of positive buzz from early press screenings.
In a new chat about the film, Vaughn threw around a few ideas regarding a possible sequel to the prequel. Spoilerphobes beware, his comments give away a few important First Class plot details.
On how First Class 2 could open, Vaughn said: “I thought it would be fun to open with the Kennedy Assassination, and we reveal that the magic bullet was controlled by Magneto.”
Continuing that a First Class 2 wouldn’t necessarily follow the traditional comic-book sequel route of adding more characters to its roster, Vaughn adds:
“We will only have one more new character. I won’t say who he… I won’t say who he or she is! But we will only be bringing one more new character in.
“Because, I think, as Professor X is in a wheelchair, Magneto needs to have a nemesis he can fight with. Someone that will be his equal. I know who it is. It would be nice if I could say something, but I can’t, mate!”
Of course, all of this is super-early talk, and there’s no saying how much 20th Century Fox/Marvel would pressure Vaughn to change his gameplan if he signs on for First Class 2 .
For now, though, it’s at least fun to speculate.
X-Men: First Class opens 1 June.
