Mel Gibson to appear in Machete sequel
In talks to join Machete Kills
Machete Kills , the sequel to Robert Rodriguez's grindhouse tribute Machete , is set to bag itself a whole heap of additional publicity with the news that Mel Gibson is in serious negotiations to join the cast.
According to Deadline , Gibson is extremely keen on the opportunity, with sources reporting that he's almost certainly in. It would be a marked upturn in fortunes for the troubled star, whose latest project Get The Gringo will be heading straight to DVD.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez has given THR an update on his busy schedule, and has mooted the possibility of a second director on Machete Kills , should he need to begin the Sin City sequel before that movie is finished.
"Currently I am directing it," he said of Machete Kills , "but we’re checking to see if there’s going to be the need for another director if I have to go off and do Sin City . But Machete looks like it’s going to go pretty quickly so it’s possible that I will direct the whole thing."
"There’s so much of it that I want to direct I’ll probably end up directing the whole thing," he continues. "But if I have to step off, I’m going to try and shoot all of the actors and all of the main sequences. But it’s such a fun movie, and it just came out even more fun than I could have imagined. I feel like I really need to do it."
Machete Kills is expected at some point in 2013, with a release date yet to be confirmed.
