MGM planning Ben Hur remake
Will incorporate Jesus into the plot
MGM has revealed plans to remake swords and sandals epic Ben-Hur , with the studio set to take steps to make the tale even more Biblical than ever before.
Despite the 1959 film being one of the most revered in silver screen history, MGM is keen to give it a lick of paint, working from a spec script by Keith Clarke that is apparently more faithful to original book, Ben-Hur: A Tale Of The Christ .
That authenticity will manifest itself largely through the decision to focus less upon the feud between Judah Ben-Hur and Messala, and more on their formative years, before the latter’s betrayal.
The story of Christ will also be worked into proceedings to give the story a little more religious clout. Say what you like about the need for such a remake, but it certainly isn’t lacking in ambition.
Sean Daniel and Joni Levin are attached to produce, although no director has been announced at this stage. Sounds like whoever signs on will have their work cut out on this one…
