The actor had been recovering from a heart attack
Michael Clarke Duncan has died at the age of 54, having suffered a heart attack back in July.
The Academy Award-nominated actor had been receiving treatment in a Los Angeles hospital for the last two months. His fiancée released a statement confirming that the star died in the facility on Monday morning.
Duncan first came to the attention of moviegoing audiences with his eye-catching turn as Bear in Armageddon , before going on to earn an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor after his moving performance in The Green Mile .
Tom Hanks, Duncan's co-star on The Green Mile was one of the first to lead the tributes to the actor.
"I am terribly saddened at the loss of Big Mike," said Hanks. "He was the treasure we all discovered on the set of The Green Mile . He was magic. He was a big love of man and his passing leaves us stunned."
Our thoughts are with the Duncan family at this sad time.
