Michael Douglas and Matt Damon star in the full trailer for Behind The Candelabra
Steven Soderbergh’s long-awaited Liberace biopic
HBO has released a full-length trailer for upcoming TV movie with big-screen calibre, Behind The Candelabra (which is getting a cinema release in the UK).
Steven Soderbergh is directing, and it looks set to be his last feature-length stint behind the camera (for the time being at least).
Michael Douglas is the main attraction as Liberace, and the film focuses on his relationship with Scott Thorson (Matt Damon). While the film doesn’t turn away from the full glare of Liberace’s glitzily camp lifestyle, the trailer offers the promise of surprisingly dark overtones.
Candelabra is based on Thorson’s autobiography, and portrays his lover’s sinister control-freak tendencies as he’s groomed to exacting, unyielding standards.

Co-starring a frightfully made-up Rob Lowe, as well as Debbie Reynolds, Scott Bakula and Dan Aykroyd, Behind The Candelabra opens in the UK on 15 June 2013. It airs on HBO in the US on 26 May 2013.
