Michael Fassbender talks RoboCop

The upcoming RoboCop reboot has had all manner of star names mooted to play futuristic law enforcer Alex Murphy. From Tom Cruise to Johnny Depp, with even Keanu Reeves’ name chucked in there, rumour after rumour has come and gone, without the project actually getting closer to any official casting.

However, one rumour that appears to be gathering pace is the notion that director José Padilha wants Michael Fassbender for the role. And according to an interview conducted by Collider , the X-Men star wouldn’t be against discussing the possibility.

“You know, I’m always open,” he explains. “I’ll take a look at the script and sit down with the director and have a conversation. It’s not definitely like, ‘Oh, I’ve got to play RoboCop before I retire.’ I don’t have that about anything.”

“I don’t go, ‘I have to play the Dane one day,’” he continues. “I don’t really think like that. I just wait and see what comes up, and I’m always open to it. If I react to the script, then I’m up for anything.”

And whilst playing RoboCop might not be quite the same as playing Hamlet, Fassbender is aware that dressing up in the metal suit could add a little something to the experience.

“It could be kind of fun,” he muses. “It could be kind of good to have a helmet that I could hide behind, for most of the film, too. That sounds kind of appealing!” What are you waiting for José? Sign him up!
