Michael Fassbender to star in Macbeth
In line to head up new adaptation
A new adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth is set to make its way onto our screens in the not too distant future, with the title role set to be occupied by none other than Michael Fassbender.
Following in the footsteps of his X-Men co-star James McAvoy (currently playing the role on stage in London’s West End), Fassbender is set to play the Scottish king brought low by his murderous misdeeds in a new version directed by Snowtown ’s Justin Kurzel.
Written by Todd Louiso and Jacob Koskoff, Screen Daily reports that this new adaptation will take a “visceral approach to the story including significant battle scenes”.
Given that the play is one of Shakespeare’s bloodiest, that doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch, with the McAvoy-starring version proving particularly notable for its crimson excesses.
No word on when filming is set to start, but with Fassbender’s slate pretty busy at present, we’d expect a fair old wait before this one arrives in cinemas. Plenty of time to brush up on the play then…
