In his downtime from lackey-choking Darth Vader duties, Dave Prowse had a neat sideline in '70s road safety commercials. The burly, burring West Country colossus kept our streets safe as the Green Cross Code Man, all-seeing guardian of the nation's highways and spandex-clad posterboy for the Department of Transport. "I won't be there when you cross the road" was his ever reassuring catchphrase.
