Mirror's Edge 2 in development, says ex-Battlefield head
DICE doesn't "want to become a Battlefield factory"
Mirror's Edge 2 is in development at DICE, so says ex-Battlefield executive producer Ben Cousins.
"It is general knowledge in the Stockholm dev scene that Mirror's Edge 2 is in production at DICE," Cousins said. Cousins was responding to EA Games vice-president Patrick Soderlund, who said he doesn't want DICE "to become a Battlefield factory" (originally reported by Official Xbox Magazine).
The studio's last non-Battlefield game was the original Mirror's Edge, which released in 2008 to critical enthusiasm but poor sales. Since then, DICE has been preoccupied with said first-person shooter series and work on its Frostbite engine which has underpinned several other EA titles.
"So for [DICE employees] to make great Battlefield games there need to be other things for them to do as well. That's why we have people who move around quite a bit. And then obviously we have a boatload of people that just want to make Battlefield because they love it."
EA declined to comment on whether Mirror's Edge 2 is in development when contacted by Eurogamer, though the company has previously indicated continued interest in the property.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
