This past weekend, the SXSW Film Festival took place in Austin, Texas. Which means that a few fortuitous filmmakers were lucky enough to bag distributors for their projects.
One of those flicks was Monsters , which has been nabbed by Magnet Releasing.
The film is the first feature of Gareth Edwards, who previously directed Attila The Hun for the BBC, and has won a BAFTA and an Emmy nomination for his work in visual effects.
Monsters is a sci-fi yarn based six years after aliens have invaded Earth, and have infected a quarantined area in Mexico. It was shot using actors Scoot McNairy and Whitney Able alongside people off the street whom they picked up on their road trip through Guatemala, Mexico and the US.
Magnolia senior vice president Tom Quinn, handling worldwide sales, said:
“We were blown away by Monsters . Gareth Edwards is an extraordinary talent and we're thrilled to bring his vision to American audiences.”
Which we should take as a sign that Monsters is one to keep an eye on in the coming months. That said, Magnet also procured Neil Marshall’s Centurion before the fest, which is one that you probably shouldn’t bother keeping an eye on...
