Someone is about to win $10,000 for being able to explain Dark Souls

The Dark Souls games have a deep, intricate mythology - it just takes some digging to get to it. Okay, like, a lot of digging. So much digging that, Kotaku reports, Dark Souls 3 publisher Bandai Namco is about to give $10,000 to someone in exchange for them being able to explain the series' lore to newcomers.

It's all part of the My Dark Souls Story contest, which asked Dark Souls fans to use screenshots, gameplay footage, and concept art to tell the story of the Chosen Undead and the history of Lordran and Drangleic to someone who had never played a Souls game. If those capitalized words I just said make no sense to you, consider yourself the target demographic. While winners have yet to be announced, some candidates have already uploaded their videos to YouTube for all to enjoy.

There's a great variety to be seen, but if I had to pick one as a personal favorite, I'd go with this mockumentary from Nerdy, Inc. Despite its comedic approach, it actually does a good job of putting the events of the games into plain speak, in a way that newcomers should appreciate:

Bandai Namco writes that winners will be notified "on or around" February 16.
