Naomi Watts for The Birds remake?
Brad Fuller wants Naomi to be his Bird...
Despite the fact we wholeheartedly believe only Alfred Hitchcock should be allowed to remake his films, we can’t help but be intrigued by the latest news from The Birds rejig team.
Remember those rumours of Naomi Watts appearing in the remake? Turns out they were true. In theory, at least.
Speaking to IGN, producer Brad Fuller, from Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes company, confirmed they’ve approached Watts to play the lead role, made famous by Tippi Hedren’s supernatural ability to put up with Hitch’s japes.
“No actor or actress is going to commit to anything without a script,” Fuller said. “We’ve sat down with her and, conceptually, I think we all want to make the same movie but, until we have a script and a director, I think it’s a little premature. But we’ll all talk. She’s who we’d like to have as the lead.”
It may indeed be a little premature, but with Watts’ track record – Tank Girl excluded – if she likes the project, even a little, then it must have something going for it.
One thing’s for sure, we’ll be watching the skies for more news on this one...
