Neil Burger will direct Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
Limitless director to helm adap
Limitless and The Illusionist director Neil Burger has signed on to helm the big screen adaptation of video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune .
Director David O Russell ( The Fighter ) left the project earlier this year over creative differences with Sony - he wanted to use the game’s basic premise and create an entirely different story for the film.
Now, Burger will both write and direct the film, with Variety reporting that “producers Avi Arad, Ari Arad, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner sparked to [Burger's ] new take” on the concept.
Following adventurer Nathan Drake, the game of Uncharted sees the intrepid explorer seeking out the lost treasure of El Dorado. It's not certain yet if the movie will follow the same storyline.
Fans of the game were up in arms when it was announced that Mark Wahlberg would play Drake, arguing that cult favourite Nathan Fillion was more suited to the role.
Time will tell if Burger agrees and ditches Wahlberg, or if he gives his Limitless buddy Bradley Cooper a call and offers him the role instead.
