Neil LaBute remaking Death At A Funeral

Filmmaker Neil LaBute has grabbed a two-film deal with Sony’s Screen Gems arm, with his first project planned as a remake of Death At A Funeral, including Chris Rock as the star.

The original Death, which Frank Oz directed in 2007 (which must make this one of the quickest remakes ever), featured the likes of Alan Tudyk, Matthew MacFadyen and Peter Dinklage in a tale of family secrets and comic misunderstandings.

Rock co-wrote and will star in the new, Americanised version, which deals with similar family dysfunction and old conflicts.

Here Comes The Sun

LaBute’s other new project will be Here Comes The Son, a romantic comedy.

There are no details available for that one yet, but given the writer/director’s history, we’re guessing it won’t be conventional and it’ll likely end up just a little twisted.

Still, if he’s trying to keep his career on track post Wicker Man, he might not want to go too far…
