Neill Blomkamp has written an 18-page treatment for District 10
And reveals he passed on Star Wars
With Elysium soon to hit cinemas, Neill Blomkamp is very much a man in demand, one of modern cinema’s go-to guys for original, intelligent sci-fi movies.
Fans of his work will be pleased then to learn that the director has written an 18-page treatment for District 10 , a prospective sequel to his well-loved breakthrough film, District 9 .
Blomkamp has co-written the script with wife and writing partner Terri Tatchell, although the two won’t give anything much away about it, suffice to say that it’s “really fucking cool”.
Whether or not the sequel will be pushed into production any time soon remains to be seen, with Blomkamp keen to leave his options open for new projects. However, it’s good to know there’s something on the back burner.
Meanwhile, Wired reports that Blomkamp passed on becoming involved in the new Star Wars sequels, as a potential director for one of their respective spin-offs.
Apparently the prospect was raised by Elysium producer Simon Kinberg, himself heavily involved in the new Star Wars series, only for Blomkamp to politely decline.
Elysium opens in the UK on 21 August 2013.
