New Anarchy Reigns trailers introduce us to cyborg cat-man and killer robot
Platinum Games' latest looks crazy, in a surprise to no one
Sega has released a couple new character-based shorts from Platinum Games' upcoming Anarchy Reigns, a sequel of sorts to MadWorld. Platinum's message in these two clips (which could almost pass for social commentary, if you squint just right) seems fairly clear: “the collapse of society at the hands of lawless mobs isn't such a huge problem – provided you're a cybernetic man-tiger with guns for limbs, and/or a robot made entirely out of outsized drill bits.” For that’s exactly what the clips' heroes, Durga and Garuda, are.
If you've nothing on this afternoon, would you mind compiling a rough bodycount for the two trailers? Because this must be a contender for the single most lethal hundred seconds you'll see this year. That shouldn't be any great surprise for anyone familiar with the studio previously responsible for Bayonetta, MadWorld and Vanquish – or, for that matter, anyone aware that this is a game called Anarchy Reigns. The title, Platinum's fifth for Sega, is set for a January 2012 release – expect further glimpses, doubtless laden with further shout-outs to the Platinum/Clover back catalog, between now and then. And if you’d like to try and make sense of it, watch the nonsensical story trailer.
