Lucasfilm plans another Star Wars ’toon series, but this time from the makers of Robot Chicken
Robot Chicken ’s two irreverent Star Wars specials clearly impressed George Lucas so much that he’s given its creators – Seth (Oz from Buffy ) Green and Matthew Senreich the greenlight to create an entire animated comedy Star Wars series.
Robot Chicken is the cult smash hit sketch show on the US Adult Swim channel (home of bizarre adult-orientated cartoons) which uses stop motion action figures. Two spin-off Star Wars specials have now become legendary, with Green and Senreich managing to rope in many of the original movies’ cast members – and even George Lucas himself – to provide voice work.
Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter , Lucasfilm has snapped up Green and Senreich to develop a new animated comedy Star Wars series, though there is no indication yet what form of animation it’ll use – 2D, 3D CGI or stop motion.
“The Star Wars universe is so dense and rich, it’s crazy to think that there aren’t normal, mundane everyday problems in a world so well-defined,” Green said. “What do these characters do when they’re not overthrowing empires?”
Added Senreich, “We’re going to pull back the curtain of some of those behind-the-scenes shenanigans.”
