New production blog from The Hobbit focuses on the dragon: watch now

The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug has released a new production video blog online, focusing on how Peter Jackson and crew filmed the more dragon-centric scenes.

Interestingly enough, it transpires that Jackson was still unsure of how his final design for Smaug would look, even when principle photography was underway on the film!

Fortunately, he managed to settle on an aesthetic that looks suitably menacing. From the brief glimpses of Smaug we’ve seen so far, he looks a villain to be reckoned with…

Take a look at the new blog, below…

Nice to see Benedict Cumberbatch make an appearance, and the sequence in which Martin Freeman has to react to his voice alone is a bit of a treat!

Directed by Jackson and co-starring Ian McKellen, Orlando Bloom and Richard Armitage, The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug will open on 13 December 2013.
