New Prometheus image shows previously unseen alien
Take a look at an older Engineer
Prometheus is still keeping fans furiously chewing over its various questions and mysteries, with the release of a previously unseen image showing another member of the extra-terrestrial race known as the Engineers.
The image appears to be taken from a deleted scene from the film's spectacular (if slightly baffling) opening, in which a hooded humanoid creature drinks a vial of black liquid, causing him to collapse and dissolve into a nearby river.
Whereas the theatrical cut showed the aforementioned figure all alone in his task, this new image shows him joined by a second figure, one apparently showing the signs of pronounced old age. These things don't remain muscle-bound titans forever, then.
How exactly the second figure would have fit into the plot is anyones guess, although with Ridley Scott confirming that the Blu-ray edition will contain around 20-30 minutes of deleted scenes, we should be able to find out eventually. However, he does stress that the theatrical cut is the version he wanted, and any deleted scenes will only be present as extras.
"This is fundamentally the director’s cut," he says of the theatrical version, "but there will be half an hour of stuff on the menu because people are so into films—how they’re made, how they’re set up, and the rejections in it. That’s why it’s fascinating. So this will all go on to the menu."
