New synopsis for The Evil Dead remake
Sounds remarkably similar to the original
Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead remake has released a new synopsis, courtesy of Sony, and from the sounds of it, the plot will stick incredibly closely to that of the original.
We had initially heard that Diablo Cody’s script would recast one of the characters as a recovering drug addict, with the trip to the woods designed as a kind of cold turkey getaway, but there’s no mention of that whatsoever in the new blurb.
Check it out below:
“ In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for surviva l .”
All sounds very familiar, doesn’t it? Perhaps the various deviations from the plot are being kept under wraps for the sake of simplicity, but given that practically everyone knows the basic premise of The Evil Dead , it seems odd just to trot it out again in the new synopsis.
One thing we have been promised is gore, with Sam Raimi recently claiming the remake is “so bloody it’ll make your head spin”. Let’s also hope there are a few novel plot twists in there to keep things interesting when the film opens in the UK on 12 April 2013.
