Next Narnia Movie Will Be The Magicians Nephew

If it happens, that is. But it definitely won’t be The Silver Chair

Yes there are plans for another Narnia movie despite the last film, The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader hardly setting the box office alight (which was a shame because it was actually not at all bad). It was another one of those films that performed poorly in North America, but did a lot better in the rest of the world. And while it took less at the box office than its two predecessors, The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe and Prince Caspian , it also cost less to make (its budget was around $155 million and it took $404 million worldwide, so it was clearly profitable even if not a massive hit). So the production company behind the movie franchise, Walden Media, is keen to press on.

However, while many were expecting The Silver Chair to be the next film (in the book series, it does come next), Walden president Michael Flaherty has told The Christian Post that if the next film does get made, they’ll be doing the prequel story The Magician’s Nephew instead. “We are starting to talk to Fox and talk to the CS Lewis estate now about The Magician’s Nephew being our next film,” says Flaherty. “If we can all agree to move forward, then what we would do is find someone to write the script. So, it could still be a couple of years… I love The Magician’s Nephew because it’s a great origins story. You get to learn so much about where the wardrobe came from, where the lamppost came from, where Narnia came from.”
