J.D. Salinger biopic will star Nicholas Hoult
Nicholas Hoult will play celebrated author J.D. Salinger in a new biopic entitled Rebel In The Rye. The film is an adaptation of author Kenneth Slawenski’s biography JD Salinger: A Life, and will chart the story behind Salinger’s seminal novel, A Catcher In The Rye.
Said story will take in Salinger’s rebellious youth, while also dropping in on his military service during WW2, his brief marriage to Sylvia Welter in Germany and the PTSD that crippled his writing for years afterwards. It promises to be quite the tale…
The Butler and Empire screenwriter Danny Strong will be making his big-screen directorial debut for this one, and will also be adapting the screenplay from Slawenski’s source material. No start or release dates have been confirmed at this stage, with the project’s international rights to be sold at TIFF next week.
