Nintendo confirms new console for 2012, will premier a playable version at E3

Since last week the rumor millhas been running non-stop saying Nintendo's Wii successor not only exists, but is being shown to industry insiders. With so many different, believablereports out there, Nintendo decided to take a similar approach as it did with 3DS: confirm it now and tell everyone to wait for E3.

During its quarterly financial update, Nintendo just came out and confirmed that its new console would not only debut at E3, it'd also be playable. We were expecting at best some video footage, but the system is far enough along that playable versions of its first software will be shown to the public. Makes one wonder just when in 2012 it will launch. History says November in time for the holidays, but lately Nintendo has been partial to Spring launches too...

With this news added to Nintendo showcasing a Mario 3DS gameand Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (which seems to be the last Wii game you should ever care about), Nintendo's E3 press conference on June 7 looks incredibly stacked. Just what will Sony and Microsoft have up their sleeves to match that? Teases of their future console plans? Has the next generation of gaming already begun?
