"None of us are making movies for the critics" - Batman v Superman cast respond to poor reviews
If you've been following Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - read our review here - you're probably aware that the critical reception to the film has been largely negative. As I'm writing this the film currently has a 32% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is lower than even Affleck's much-maligned 2003 comic book movie Daredevil.
Yahoo! Movies bravely asked Zack Snyder and his cast what they made of the poor reviews, and they were met with some interesting responses. "None of us are making the movies for the critics", Amy Adams noted. "I know we really hope the fans like it and so far the reaction has been really positive." Check out the video below...
Adams' quote is a familiar party line that gets trotted out at times like this, and while there is some truth to it, it's also true that nobody wants to like and champion movies more than film critics. To put it another way... film critics are the biggest film fans.
The next few days, weeks, and months are going to be really interesting for Warner Bros' DC universe plans. With such a negative critical reception, they will be heavily reliant on the public coming out in their droves to see the film. Opening weekend will almost undoubtedly see big numbers, but whether or not people keep coming back is another issue entirely. Time will tell.
Directed by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Diane Lane, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Irons, Laurence Fishburne, and Amy Adams, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will arrive in UK and US cinemas on March 25, 2016.
