OMFG News of the Year 2007

Manhunt 2 announced for Nintendo Wii

And PSP and PS2, of course. But Rockstar's murderous romp hitting the coy, innocent Wii was the shock here, as we visualised the console's motion control resulting in an outbreak of gamers vigourously re-enacting grisly killings in front of the TV, like a troupe of psychopathic mimes.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games announced

Not that an Olympic game is much of a shocker, but Mario and Sonic - surely videogame history's biggest rivals - teaming up for a chirpy cheerful eventfest was enough to have gaming veterans splurting out their cornflakes in surprise. And, yet, the biggest surprise was yet to come, as Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games didn't turn out to be complete pap!

Devil May Cry 4 is announced for Xbox 360

"Pah!" Sony fans spat, dismissively, as the internets speculated over DMC4's potential defection to Microsoft's console. "Even Capcom say it won't happen!" they chorused. Yet, for the first time ever, a much rumoured development actually was a surprise, when it was finally announced that Dante and Nero would be cutting it up on both PS3 and Xbox 360. "Now for Metal Gear Solid!" 360 gamers roared. "Am cry," sobbed PS3 fans.
