OnLive to offer $9.99 flat-fee access in January, service still needs more titles
'PlayPack' to include 40+ games from OnLive's archives
OnLive is making good on its initial launch promise to provide a flat-fee, all-you-can-stream pass forits cloud gaming service. Starting January 15th, 2011, the OnLive 'PlayPack' will grant members access to OnLive's library for $9.99 a month. The only catch? It doesn't include the new stuff.
In its current form,OnLive's PlayPackis limited to a select number of games, andnone that we've seen fall into the'new releases' category. They include popular titles such as Unreal Tournament 2, NBA 2K10, Tomb Raider: Underworld, F.E.A.R. 2, LEGO Batman and World of Goo.
OnLive plans to make 40+ titles available for the PlayPack package by its January launch, and that certainly sweetens the deal. 'PlayPasses' for games not included in the subscription can still be purchased a la carte.
Early access to the PlayPack is available to OnLive Game System owners (which are now shipping, if you pre-ordered), and it will be open to all OnLive members onJanuary 15. The service does not require a contract.
