Original Burnout devs teasing a "spiritual successor"
Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry are two former members of Criterion, the studio behind Burnout. They left a while back to form a new studio called Three Fields and have finally started talking about what they're working on.
Unsurprisingly, there's a driving game in there. A crashy one:
Two things. Our first game is a multiplayer sports game. Coming Spring 2016. Then we make a driving game. RT and #ScreamIfYouWantToGoFasterOctober 1, 2015
What sort of driving game you ask? A spiritual successor. Speed. Traffic. And Crashing. Lots and lots of crashing. #ShinyRedSomethingOctober 1, 2015
Spiritual successor to which one though??? The second, the third or the fourth one?? #decisionsOctober 1, 2015
That mention of "the second, the third or the forth one" suggests it might be a more trad racing experience, shying away from Burnout Paradise's (the fifth one) more open world and online take on the series. It also sounds like it's going to be a way off if that sports game's first. If I had to guess I'd say the first game will be a smaller, digital thing to raise funds before tackling anything more ambitious.
