"Mature" Walking Dead shooter detailed by Payday devs

So far, Payday studio Overkill has only teased its upcoming The Walking Dead shooter. There’s been the name - Overkill's The Walking Dead - and little else. We know the game’s being developed in close partnership with original creator Robert Kirkman, will be based on the comics, and feature elements both familiar and new to Payday fans.

In an interview with OPM, Starbreeze global brand director Almir Listo dropped a few teases about the game - things like Kirkman being “super-involved” with development. “It’s going to be a co-op experience, it’s going to be a survival-horror action-RPG, and there’s going to be various different things that you’re going to see,” Listo said. “Yes, when you sit down and play it you’re going to say, ‘This is a great FPS. This has elements of surprise and stealth and horror.’ But without going into it, we’re definitely going to try and shake up some stuff.”

Listo also noted that, as disturbing as AMC’s The Walking Dead can be, the comics can be far darker. The studio is hoping to take their experience with the Payday series and use that to their advantage. “With our mature take on Payday and with our The Walking Dead game being mature as well, you can definitely expect something in line with the comic books. The same level of ... disturbance, if you will!”
