Parker and Stone sign three-year studio deal
South Park’s finest scribble on the dotted line with Paramount
Those wily cats over at Paramount have inked a first look deal with Team America creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, announcing the agreement is “effective immediately.” The studio previously released South Park: Bigger, Longer And Uncut and Team America: World Police which were written, directed, produced and voiced by the lampooning pair.
After shaking on the deal the ever-mocking duo revealed that they will work under the intriguing name Trunity, a Mediar company, a division of True Mediar, a Unity Corpbopoly. Parker and Stone will be joined by South Park cohorts Anne Garefino and Jennifer Howell, who have been creating animated anarchy with the boys since 1997.
The deal will involve Parker and Stone writing, developing and directing new projects. “Trey and Matt are some of the most original voices in entertainment,” said Paramount president Gail Berman. “They are funny and brilliant, and we are extremely happy they want to continue to make movies with us at Paramount.”
Let’s just hope the boys don’t run into fellow Paramount producer Tom Cruise in the studio canteen. The Cruiser came in for some stick in a typically tasteful episode of South Park screened this week in the States… and we all know how good big Tom is at taking a joke.
