PES predicts: Day 13
[PS2] Holland and Argentina clash in a Group C super-game - PES decides the winner
Tuesday 20 June 2006
Throughout the 2006 World Cup we'll be predicting each day's results - using Pro Evolution Soccer! We'll select the teams and let the game play out the action on its own, before posting a quick match report and the final, PES-predicted score.
2006 World Cup: Day 13
Match one: Iran vs Angola
There are few chances for either side in this scrappy match, but the first shot on goal finds the back of the net towards the end of the first half. With Akwa hovering, Iran's defence stumble leaving the Angolan striker free to muscle his way on to the ball and slide a shot straight past the keeper. Iran waste a brilliant chance late on - a free header ballooned over the crossbar - and Angola hold out for the win.
PES predicts: Iran 0, Angola 1
Match two: Portugal vs Mexico

With Borgetti out, Mexico struggle to offer any attacking chances, but Portugal aren't much better. Both teams cut out the opposition's attacks efficiently but Portugal look the less impressive, their moves ponderous and underwhelming. It takes an individual effort from Figo and a great left-foot shot smashed in across the face of goal to spare Portugal's blushes.
PES predicts: Portugal 1, Mexico 0
Above: The Mexican goalkeeper can't stop Figo's powerful shot from slamming into the back of the net
Match three: Holland vs Argentina
Holland create a series of chances early on before Van Nistelrooij slips a great pass to Van Persie, who slams the ball home via the right post. But despite dominating for long periods, Holland can't stop Cruz using his strength to force his opponents off the ball and equalise for Argentina just 10 minutes later. Both sides have chances to win it, with Robben denied by the crossbar, but it finishes all square.
PES predicts: Holland 1, Argentina 1
Match four: Ivory Coast vs Serbia & Montenegro
With Serbia & Montenegro playing a very conservative game, it's up to Ivory Coast to break them down. And it's not long before a powerful shot from Kalou ricochets off the keeper for Drogba to poke in on the rebound. The Serbian players have no answer for Ivory Coast's consistent pressure, and eventually Kalou strikes again with a storming shot from outside the area in second half extra time.
PES predicts: Ivory Coast 2, Serbia & Montenegro 0
